Two Awami League leaders were injured in an attack by miscreants in Kaptai Upazila of Rangamati. The incident took place on Friday evening in the KPM Ltd. cinema hall area of Chandraghona Union No. 01 of the upazila.
Among the injured are Kaptai Upazila Awami League member and contractor Md. Kamrul (50) and Chandraghona UP Awami League joint secretary Md. Sakhawat Hossain Nayan (35).
According to local sources, when Kaptai Upazila Awami League member and contractor Md. Kamrul came to the KPM Ltd. cinema hall area on Friday evening, he was asked why he had come there. At one point in the discussion, the miscreants attacked him with a sharp knife.
At that time, Sakhawat Hossain Nayan also got injured when he tried to stop them. The injured are currently receiving treatment at the Kaptai Upazila Health Complex.
In this regard, Kaptai Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mohammad Masud confirmed the incident and said that it is not yet known who or what was involved in the incident. However, it is believed that the attack may have been carried out in retaliation for a previous political dispute.
