Titumir College students have taken up positions on Gulshan roads, resulting in traffic disruption

Students have blocked Gulshan-1 roundabout demanding the conversion of the government Titumir College in Mohakhali in the capital into an independent university.

On Saturday (February 1), they took out a procession from in front of the college around 7 pm and started a sit-in program there, which resulted in traffic jams.

The protesting students said that their ultimatum was until 4 pm, but as their demands were not met, the road was blocked as previously announced and they said that the movement will be more intense tomorrow.

The protesters also displayed placards along with raising various slogans, such as ‘Action to Action, Direct Action’, ‘We Want Justice’, ‘Titumir is coming, the highway is shaking’ etc.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Education has issued a statement about the movement. It says that an expert committee led by the UGC chairman is working to form a separate university by combining seven traditional colleges in Dhaka and the issue of Titumir College is being given special consideration. However, the statement stated that it is not logical to hold a time-bound protest to convert a college into a university and called on the protesters to be patient.
