Security has been tightened for this year's Ijtema compared to previous years, says IGP

IGP Baharul Alam said that stricter security measures have been taken for this year’s Bishwa Ijtema than before. The forces are fully alert and vigilant to maintain law and order so that no chaos is created. About 7,000 law enforcement personnel will be deployed for security during the Ijtema. In addition, about 10,000 volunteers will work on behalf of the Tablighi Jamaat.

He gave this information at a press briefing held in front of the Gazipur Metropolitan Police control room on Wednesday (January 29) afternoon.

The IGP said that the entire Bishwa Ijtema Maidan has been brought under the control of 335 CCTV cameras and will be monitored through drones. To ensure security, RAB helicopters will patrol, while members of the Naval Police will conduct surveillance in speed boats on the Turag River. 20 checkposts have been set up around the Ijtema Maidan, and the situation will be monitored through binoculars from the watch tower. In addition, police members in plain clothes will be responsible for security in every corner of the ground.

Additional IGP Akram Hossain, Gazipur Metropolitan Police Commissioner Dr. Nazmul Karim Khan, Additional DIG Zahidul Islam Bhuiyan, Additional Police Commissioners Zahidul Hasan, Taherul Haque Chauhan, Gazipur Police Superintendent Chowdhury Jaber Sadek, Maulana Mahfuzul Haque and Gazipur Metropolitan BNP General Secretary M Manjurul Karim Rony were present at the press briefing.
