A rally was held at the Central Shaheed Minar in the capital to demand the implementation of the salary scale for assistant teachers in government primary schools in the 10th grade. Teachers from different districts of the country started gathering there at 10 am on Friday (January 24).
The formalities of the rally began at 11:30 am with the recitation of the Holy Quran and the reading of the Gita.
The teachers raised various slogans at the rally, such as: “One point, one demand,” “Teachers’ 10 grades,” “Jegeche re jegeche,” “Teacher society has awakened,” “Who are you, who am I—teacher, teacher,” “There is no place for discrimination in Yunus’ Bengal,” and “There is no place for discrimination in my golden Bengal.”
The teachers said that they participated in the rally to demand the salary scale of primary teachers to be upgraded from the 13th grade to the 10th grade. Earlier, they had held various programs including submitting a memorandum.
A teacher participating in the rally said, “We are ashamed that we had to take to the streets. Why should teachers take to the streets? This is our rightful right. It is very difficult to live on the salary we receive these days. We have been carrying out this movement since 2021. The movement will continue until our demands are met.”
