Murder to escape father's rule, son confesses 10 months after incident

In Bakerganj, Barisal, an only son killed his father by wrapping him in a towel and dumping his body in a field. The police have unraveled the mystery 10 months after the incident. The accused son, Badsha Howlader (45), has been arrested and sent to jail through the court.

On Friday (January 24), Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Bakerganj Police Station, Shafiqul Islam, confirmed the matter. The arrested Badsha confessed to killing his father by giving a statement under Section 164 in the Barisal Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate’s Court on Thursday.

The OC said that the murder was very complex. However, it was possible to bring the criminal under the law by using the professionalism and expertise of the police.

According to police information, Rustum Ali Howlader (75), a resident of Daokathi area of ​​Rangashree Union in Bakerganj Upazila, Barisal, went missing on April 17, 2024. Two days later, police recovered his half-decomposed body from a cotton field near his house. The autopsy report released on December 28 confirmed that he had been strangled to death. The deceased’s brother, Aub Ali, filed a murder case in the incident on January 21.

Rustum Ali returned to the country after working abroad as a laborer for a long time.
