The task force has seized Indian smuggled goods worth about one crore taka during a search of SA Paribahan in Benapole. On Thursday (January 23), based on specific information, a truck of SA Paribahan, bearing registration number Dhaka Metro Dr-14-0170, was searched in front of Amrakhali check post at 10:30 pm. The search resulted in the recovery of 882 sarees, 453 three-piece suits, 249 ready-made garments, 4 blankets, 18 packets of raisins, 14 packets of cumin seeds, 23 pairs of sandals, 48 Realme headphones, 37,160 chocolates and 646 cosmetics products.
All these goods have been seized on charges of customs evasion due to lack of valid documents, with an estimated value of 86,06,475 taka (86 lakh 6 thousand 475). The BGB said that for a long time, the smuggling gang had been illegally bringing goods from India and smuggling them to different parts of the country through SA Paribahan.
On January 23, 2025, a special task force was formed and the operation was carried out, which included magistrates, BGB and police officials. Senior ASP of Navaran Circle Nishat Al Nahian, Sharsha Upazila Nirbahi Officer Kazi Nazib Hasan, Assistant Director of 49 BGB Sohel Al Mujahid and OC of Benapole Port Police Station Russell Mia were present in the operation.
Jessore Battalion (49 BGB) Commander Saifullah Siddiqui said that the process of depositing the seized goods at Benapole Customs is underway. Such operations will continue in the future to prevent smuggling.
