Bangladeshi youth injured in BSF firing again at border

A Bangladeshi youth named Habil Uddin (30) was injured in firing by the Indian Border Security Force (BSF) at the Telkupi border in Shibganj upazila of Chapainawabganj.

Lieutenant Colonel Golam Kibria, commander of BGB-59 Battalion, confirmed this information in a press release on Saturday (January 25).

The incident took place at around 3:30 am on Friday (January 24). The injured Habil Uddin is the son of Belal Uddin, a resident of Telkupi village in Shibganj upazila.

According to local sources, 7-8 Bangladeshis including Habil tried to enter India through the Telkupi border on Friday night. At that time, Habil was injured in the firing by BSF members, he was shot in the back. Later, he was taken to Chapainawabganj District Hospital for treatment early Saturday morning. From there, he was transferred to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital for advanced treatment.

Chapainawabganj BGB-59 Battalion Commander Lieutenant Colonel Golam Kibria said that two to three rounds of gunfire were heard from across the border at around 3:30 am. A Bangladeshi youth was injured in the incident.

He also said that the BSF has been called for a flag meeting in this incident.

It is worth noting that earlier on the night of January 10, a BSF soldier was killed in firing at the Azmatpur border in Shibganj upazila.
