Police have recovered the body of an elderly man named Ismail Mia (60) from an abandoned bathroom tank in Ashuganj, Brahmanbaria. The body was recovered from an abandoned bathroom tank in Lalpur Union on Friday (January 24) afternoon.
The deceased Ismail Mia is the son of the deceased Uzir Ali of Lama Sharifpur village of the upazila and the father of six children.
In this incident, locals have arrested the deceased’s extramarital lover (35) and her husband Sumon Mia (40) and handed them over to the police.
According to police and local sources, Ismail Mia had been missing since Thursday (January 23) evening. Family members searched for him but could not find him and posted a status on Facebook on Friday morning. Then, around 2:30 pm, locals found his body in the bathroom tank of an abandoned house in the village. On receiving the information, the police came and recovered the body. Later, the locals arrested the deceased’s lover and her husband and handed them over to the police.
According to the information given by the arrested lover during the initial interrogation of the police, it was learned that Ismail Mia had been having an extramarital affair with him for a long time. Ismail often had physical relations with the woman under various pretexts. At 8:30 pm on Thursday, her mason husband was not at home for work. Taking this opportunity, Ismail entered the house and had physical relations with the woman. However, the woman wanted to throw him out of the house because he had taken aphrodisiac tablets. At that time, Ismail grabbed the woman’s eighth-grade daughter while she was sleeping. Enraged, the woman hit Ismail repeatedly on the head, causing her to fall to the ground. Later, she cut her leg and confirmed her death.
Later, the woman, with the help of her daughter, dumped the body in the bathroom tank of an abandoned house nearby. The woman’s husband returned home at night, but the mother and daughter behaved normally. During police interrogation, detained Sumon Mia said that he did not know anything about the incident.
However, the deceased’s son Saddam Hossain claimed that Sumon and his wife, along with unknown people, killed his father for financial gain.
Ashuganj Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Billal Mia said that the husband and wife have been arrested on suspicion of being directly involved in the murder. Further legal action will be taken based on the complaint and investigation of the deceased’s family.
