Students of seven colleges have warned of a tough protest if a decision is not made within the next four hours to achieve their six-point demands. They made this warning at a press conference in front of the main gate of Dhaka College on Monday (January 27).
They have raised six demands, including an apology from the university administration for the clash with Dhaka University students and the resignation of Pro-VC Mamun Ahmed.
After the clash at 12 noon, the students spoke about the Dhaka blockade program and their position. After the press conference, they protested on the Dhaka College premises shouting slogans, announcing that they would announce a tougher program if their demands were not met by 4 pm.
Their demands are—
- The university administration must apologize for the clash with Dhaka University students and ensure the resignation of Pro-VC Mamun Ahmed.
- The AC, OC and concerned police members of New Market Police Station must be withdrawn and departmental action taken through an investigation into the heinous police attack on Dhaka College student Rakib, including the attempted murder.
- Punitive action should be taken against Dhaka University students involved in making obscene comments and indecent behavior towards female students of seven colleges including Eden College and Badrunnesa College.
- Academic and administrative relations with Dhaka University should be finally terminated in accordance with the demands of the students of the seven colleges and the outline of an independent university should be formulated.
